Episode 25 - Michael Dowd

Former UCC minister, Micheal Dowd, is on a mission to save humanity...from climate change.  Ecology is the new Theology.  Humans have glorified their needs at the expense of the earth and there's hell and high water to pay.  If you and your god-narratives aren't pro-future, you're part of the problem, not the solution.  a big John Michael Greer disciple and proponent of Citlizens Climate Lobby (CCL), Dowd gives tips on what we can do to help (besides drive a Prius).  Good talk, see you out there!

Episode 21 - Frank Schaeffer

Bob & Cass interview Frank Schaeffer about his latest book, "Why I'm an Atheist Who Believes in God."  Once we get past that fact that semantically those words are mutually exclusive, an odd conversation can happen.   This paradox, this tension, especially for those who were raised religious and are no longer, can stick in your head for decades.  Perhaps some just can't completely shut the coffin on God?  "Spiritual but not religious."  How much space can remain for the possibility of a "god" or Prime Mover once one denies all supernaturalism, magic, superstition, and fully accepts Darwin's theory of evolution?  Is it anything more than feelings or wishful thinking?

Episode 17 - Kim

Kim's journey out of her Church of Christ family legacy and the scarlet letter it pinned on her (twice) has not diminished her love of spiritual speculation regarding the ontological questions.  She's an open book, unashamed of her humanity and expresses that on her blog, "The Cultivated Mother."  Great talk, see ya out there!

Episode 16 -Sam B

This conversation with Sam Bowman is fast, a little scattered, but we cover a lot of ground and glean some of Sam’s hard-earned wisdom. He has hopped many a theological train in a catch-and-release evolution of his personal philosophy.  It gets pretty weird...and enriching.

David followed Bob's footsteps into radio, TV, and film.   You've heard his voice-overs, you've seen him on TV.  Our first Ayn Randian, Objectivist, Ultra-Capitalist Conservative, Atheist Jew.  I think this is Bob's funniest show ever.  David was a pioneer in podcastinig in the 90's.  He brings his power-voice to the table.  Enjoy!

Episode 13 - Roger Wolsey

Roger is the most theistic guest we've ever had.  He's an ordained Methodist minister on the campus of Univ of Colorado, Boulder.  He's one of many voices in Progressive Christianity.  Author of "Kissing Fish: Christianity for People Who Don't Like Christianity."  Roger is a great communicator; he almost re-converted me and he's not even trying.

Episode 11 - Cass monologue

I discuss the first 17 items on American Atheists list of 40 harmful effects of Christianity. And Neil Carter's review of the movie "God's Not Dead." Christian author Rachel Held Evans recommended the review to her flock. I address the question, "does the anus double as a sex organ?" from personal experimentation. I plug "The Partially Examined Life" philosophy podcast. I briefly address Sam Harris' new book, "Waking Up." Interject some Hitchens and Carlin before I just ran out of gas taping in the middle of the night.

Episode 10 - Wayne Donowho

Wayne's pilgrimage took him to every major religion and its practices to see what works.  From Jesus to Rumi to Ganesh to the Tao.  Listen as Wayne shares a rigorous search for "truth" in the most pragmatic sense.  He wrestles not with religions or the contradictions in his own life.  There's something here for us to learn.

Blake is one of us who reinvented himself at middle-age.  Spiritually, politically, and maritally.  Another candid interview of the personal journey and what we learn from the difficult choices.  Blake is a dear friend and fellow pilgrim on the sojourn.  I think you'll benefit from his story.

Episode 6 - Sam Rhymes

Sam works in show business in L.A. and Nashville.  He and Cass were friends in high school.  He came out gay at age 30 and was recently diagnosed with HIV.  He walked out on church and didn't get struck with lightening on the way out.  After a year and half break-up with "god," he found passage in the Kabbalah.  He's funny and feisty and doesn't take any sh*t from Cass.

Episode 5 - Julia

You're gonna envy Julia's mother's side of the family, nee Divine.  Julia paints a picture of family reunions full of laughter, singing, and cimematic characters.  And how they reacted to her "coming out" as lesbian.  The patriarchal side is not so funny.  Julia's father sexually abused her for most of her childhood.  We talk about the notion of God being "father" and how that image obviously doesn't work for some.  Listen for how Julia finds her way through the maze of the sacred and the profane into a place of self-acceptance and her own spirituality.

Episode 1 - Dr. Pondillo intro episode

Bob is a man still redefining himself after 60+ years of successes and failures.  He's a dreamer, a creator, a screenwriter, an avid reader and ironically intrigued with religion, even as a lifelong atheist.  He doesn't have a mean or angry bone in his body.  His story is one of close-calls, near misses, and yet he gets up, dusts himself off and looks for the next thing.  Gotta love him.

Episode 2 - Cass Midgley intro episode

In the second installment of the hosts interviewing each other, Bob interviews Cass.  Cass is a narcissist extraordinaire and loves to talk about himself.  Bob barely gets a word in edgewise.  One little question and Cass goes for days, linking thought upon thought til only the keenest listener can make sense of it.  How Cass got his nickname, his religious timeline, his kinky babysitter, his porn habit, his exit from Christianity and how his life hangs by a thread to the teachings of Hitchens, Camus, and Nietzsche.  Cass gets more and more inebriated as the show progresses.  He's slurring words, advising as a presumptious expert, and is clueless to how embarrassed the rest of feel for him, and how he should feel for himself.
